Ameri-sized

America is pretty great I love finding food that's as big as my face.  Driving the Parks Highway between Fairbanks and Nenana there exists a restaurant called Monderosa. It's a funky little restaurant that has old school "rustic" Alaskan appeal. The building itself is made of large dark stained logs and when I stepped inside I noticed two things simultaneously 1) it's really dank dark, 2) it reeks of smoke because the server/cook/bartender has been puffing away as the lone person there.

I went to the Monderosa because I not only did I not pack enough driving snacks but also because I've heard that the burgers are the best in Alaska from a wide variety of people I trust. The burger does not get my best of Alaska stamp. It gets a passable grade for the burger, it was a bit dry for my taste and they use American cheese which is a huge no, no in my book.  But the fries are the best!!!  So if you're in the neighborhood of nowhere Alaska and you're feeling like picking up some second hand smoke and plus sized Americana food go for it.

  1. I like the salt packets in the pic. and the plain unadorned bun. Funny I was at Carl's Jr. enjoying my own Amerisized experience, and these older folks just couldn't get over the size of a medium drink.
