paired up

Wine tasting is a big hobby of mine, it hasn't always been that way though.  Wine was very much an acquired taste for me.  I acquired it through  taking a few college classes and subjecting myself to a lot of tastings until I finally discovered I love wine.  Like many who have a sweet tooth I started out with the sweeter drinks.. As my tastebuds developed I discovered that the dry wines paired better with savory food and in the case of a good bottle paired with the right dish it could actually enhance the experience and compliment whatever was on the plate.

In all the tastings I've done, it's been hard to walk away from purchasing at least a bottle or two..  sometimes five or maybe a baker's dozen..  This has led to a mini collection.. why I say mini collection?  That's because of course most/all of the dry wines get consumed with dinners but, after dinner often no one has room for dessert... or the dessert of choice doesn't pair well with any of my dessert wine offerings.  This has left me with an accumulation of dessert wines.  These wines ,while delicious have proven themselves a little troublesome to get around consuming.  That is until I paired it with ice cream.. Oh I know.. I will pay for this with my lactose intolerance, but it's worth it.  The pairing is a ice cider from Canada and lovely green pistachio gelato.  I'm pretty sure it's love..   The iced cider is perfectly sweet and appley like a good iced cider should be and the pistachio gelato was a little short on pistachios but still mighty tasty and paired really well with the cider.

aren't they a cute couple..

i've been waiting for five years for this moment

  1. I'm glad you didn't drag those bottles around for nothing....I have several bottles of Gewurztraminer for the same reason. Maybe an ice cream tasting is in order...
