Grapefruit - a great way to start the day. Apparently it's a tricky thing as it can be not so good for you and good for you at the same time. The reason it could potentially be bad for you is that grapefruit juice can't be consumed while on certain medication.
If you don't feel like reading the official Mayo Clinic link, the gist of it is that there's some enzyme that makes the medication breakdown faster and therefor more of it enters your system all at once which means you can become over medicated. The good for you part other than the fact that it's a fruit that's loaded with vitamin C, potassium, flavanoids, lycopene and folic acid is that the grapefruit diet really works.. I would never endorse dieting though because I whole heartedly don't believe in dieting. I'm pretty sure dieting is evil and is always a bad idea unless it's a health concern like high blood pressure, allergies or high cholestoral.

Grapefruit spoon is optional but convenient..
It's because I baked the blury one with honey!! If you have never had a baked grapefruit I would say there is not time to waste you should go get one right now and bake it, even if you don't like grapefruit give this a try!! Heating it up brings out the juiciness of the grapefruit and the honey cuts some of the bitter tang.. I'm not fond of oatmeal and I know eggs and sausage can't be done every day.. But I could start guilt-free everyday like this..
Ingredients:
1 Grapefruit
1 tablespoon-ish of honey
Directions:
Half Grapefruit, poor honey over each half. Broil on med for 15 minutes-ish.

ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful way to start the day.. ^^ I actually got a non-grapefruit eater to eat grapefruit.. it was the highlight of my week. (ok that may be a lie).. but I was pretty happy about it.
