some kind of awful

I'm not a 24/7 factory style kitchen master.  I will be the first to admit that I get lazy.  So lazy in fact that my pantry becomes barren of all things that are not snacks, leftover take out, condiments or freezer friendly ready meals..  I have come to terms with this aspect of my personality as I have discovered it lets my creative cooking side get a break and I usually get to try a whole bunch of new things which is always exciting.  The downside to when these spells of laziness descend is that all the fun things I decide to try don't always treat my taste buds nicely but I usually power through it because I really hate wasting.

The most recent example of very bad experimental lazy girl purchase was Michael Angelo's Italian style pie.  Essentially it's a pot pie with Gnocchi and beef.. Unless you generally don't like pot pie I don't how can one not think that should be delicious?  That's why I was so heartbroken as it seemed like a safe bet for lazy girls comfort food and it was on sale.. Buy one get one free.. BOGO sales are my personal kryptonite.. (I may have even had a moment of impulse hoarding and bought 8 containers of hemp milk that was tagged for bogo).  Back to the story, there were a couple reasons why this Italian style pie was so very, very bad.  Most importantly flavor, the flavor was completely off putting in a way that it almost tasted like fish that was on the verge of turning a little too old to eat.. The other reason was after an hour of baking (which is how long the directions indicate it will take to become the picturesque pie in the photo below.. admittedly it's not an efficient meal for a lazy person but not bad if you can plan that you will want to have something hot to eat while you are occupied with whatever distractions)  well, after that recommended hour the crust was still a grey lifeless disc that hadn't risen.  Flippin tragedy.  What's even more tragic than having to eat one of these questionable concoctions is that I have to eventually face that second one that I received for free upon purchasing the first. Blast.  The upside though is that in an effort to try more than one flavor the second one is a cheese only recipe so fingers crossed it will be far more consumable than the questionable beef awfulness.

it looks so harmless and simple, really how do you mess up pot pie

  1. Indeed. Pot pies are like a constant in the laziness formula. I'm surprised you waited an hour. I go for the thin crust pizzas, always delicious and only 15min to bake.

Hemp milk hoarding? You made some hippy sad...
